The bus fell on its side
Eight people have been injured with four of them in critical condition, in an accident involving a passenger bus and a truck at Boadi Junction in Kumasi, Thursday.
Driver of the Kumasi-bound bus travelling from Aflao reportedly lost control of the wheels after hitting the rear of the truck at a newly-constructed intersection.
The bus fell on its side into the ditch, leaving passengers, mostly traders.
At exactly 7:05 Thursday morning, the bus with registration GR 5224-19 on which they were travelling skidded off the road.
Yaw Annor, a trader at Kumasi Central Market told Joy News he had called for helping hands to assist him to off-load his wares at nearby Dunkirk a few minutes before the accident.
A teacher at Ideal College also said he was awakened by the sound of the falling bus after it screeched as the driver struggled to control the bus.
"I hurriedly came out of my room when I heard a loud noise and saw people shouting, screaming Jesus, Jesus. I didn't know what was happening then I saw the bus then I saw passengers bleeding including the driver,” the eyewitness said.
He quickly reached his phone and called both the National Fire and Ambulance Service when he saw the bus.
The timely intervention of emergency service providers, including ambulance and fire service, saved the situation.
Police Motor Transport and Traffic Department were on hand to ensure free-flow of traffic.
There are calls for city authorities to improve security installations on the stretch.
"The MCE, DCE and the MPs should do what they can and put up a barricade along the stretch. Looking at this accident, if there were to barricade here, it would have saved the bus from falling down".
Police at KNUST says the investigation into the accident has just begun.

Snakes and other reptiles have invaded Agona Kwanyako Health Centre .
Snakes and other reptiles have invaded Agona Kwanyako Health Centre following deep cracks, developed in the structure giving open access to the reptiles.
The cracks could also be found in the roofing, which leaked when it rained and an imminent collapse of the facility, which had become a death trap cannot be ruled out if immediate steps are not taken to address the situation.
Nurses and Paramedical staff of the facility are currently finding it difficult to discharge their duties well at the facility that served about 20,000 people in 30 Communities in its catchment area.
Speaking at the Annual Review Conference of the Agona East Directorate of the Ghana Health Service, Mr Kofi Kaini Mends, Agona East District Director of Health Service said the deplorable state of the Kwanyako Health Centre needed urgent attention.
The meeting was to take stock of the previous year’s activities and matters affecting the g welfare of workers and the patients as well.
He suggested that the whole facility should be pulled down and a new one constructed to forestall any disaster.
Mr Mends said a report was made to the Agona East District Assembly and District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr Dennis Armah-Frempong immediately dispatched the Assembly’s Engineers to take measurements for the renovation to be done.
He said the renovation of the facility would not solve the problem, but rather it needed a new block and appealed to stakeholders, Central Government, NGOs, donors both local and foreign to assist the Centre.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has urged his colleague MPs and Ghanaians to support President Akufo-Addo to do more in resolving challenges confronting the nation.
Mr. Nkrumah who was leading the Majority side in the debate on the state of the nation address in Accra on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, said President Akufo-Addo’s achievements and interventions so far does not only make Ghana a heathier nation across various sectors but also a bold and compelling vision to look to.
The Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, catalogued the “impressive gains” under the Akufo-Addo administration which includes growth in Agriculture, introduction of Free SHS, the buzzing tourism sector through the well-patronised Year of Return concept, investment in the security sector, Entrepreneur support, Digitization, development in sports and resourcing institutions to fight corruption among others.
On the Financial Sector cleanup, Mr. Nkrumah stressed on the importance of the exercise since the contagion effect could have literally consumed Ghana’s entire financial sector.
“Today over 11billlion has been paid out to the customers of banks. Payment for another 5 billion is starting for customers of non-banking financial institutions from this week. Deposits of over 4million Ghanaians have been saved. Robust corporate governance mechanisms have been introduced to forestall a repetition in the sector. Over 7,000 jobs have been saved and our Financial sector is healthier today than it was three years ago,” he said.
The Minister also assured the House of President Akufo-Addo and his administration’s commitment to continue with the fight against illegal mining popularly known as Galamsey.
“We haven’t completely won the fight against illegal and irresponsible mining yet. Indeed, the President admits that though some successes have been achieved, challenges remain. Community mining has been introduced after training of thousands of hither-to illegal small scale miners. Today about 20,000 of them are working legally in community mining concessions. At the same time, some are still resuming the practice of irresponsible and illegal mining. As the President mentioned his commitment is unwavering. The state agencies will clamp down on all these activities” he added.
Mr. Nkrumah said persons found to be compromising the fight will be dealt with no matter their political colour.
“Already some have been handed over to the police and we all look forward to the police doing a thorough job at investigating and prosecuting”.
Minority MPs abstained from the debate following their initial walkout during the President’s presentation last Thursday.

Two killed in fire outbreak
A 77-year-old former Assembly Member for Nkawkaw Domeabra Electoral Area and his 11-year-old grandson lost their lives in a fire outbreak in the Assembly member’s house at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
The former Assembly Member, Sammy Simpe and his grandson Kwame Sarpong died when fire engulfed their two bedroom apartment at Domeabra, a suburb of Nkawkaw Municipality, while his wife Madam Martha Ofori Simpe, aged 75 sustained serious burns on her body and is on admission at Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency, the Kwahu West Municipal Fire Officer, Divisional Officer Grade 3, Kofi Agbetorsu, said a policeman drove to the Fire Station to report the fire outbreak in a house at Domeabra at 9:45pm last Tuesday.
He said the Fire Service staff mobilized themselves with their fire tender to the scene at Domeabra within six minutes where they saw the whole apartment in flames and heard the woman screaming for help while they tried to put off the fire with the assistance of youths in the area.
Mr Agbetorsu said they broke a window and pulled out Madam Simpe from the flames as the only entrance to the building was locked with burglar proof.
The Municipal Fire Officer said, after putting off the fire, he saw the late Simpi and his grandson, Kwame Sarpong totally burnt and the police had to send the corpses to Agyarkwa Private Hospital Mortuary.
Mr Agbetorsu appealed for logistics and material assistance to the fire station to help control fire outbreaks and bush fires at the Kwahu areas as there was only one fire tender serving the whole Kwahu West Municipality, Kwahu South and East Districts.
He said there was no fire hydrant in the Nkawkaw town and had to rush to the Water Company pumping station at Adoagyiri to refill the tender to continue to put out the fire.
The Divisional Officer noted that, the Kwahu West Municipal Fire Station had recorded 24 fire incidents in the Kwahu area since the beginning of the year, made up of six domestic fires, seven bush fires, three vehicular fires where eight vehicles got burnt and two industrial fires which resulted in large number of personal effects being destroyed.
